词源记忆法：
罗马帝国的第一代皇帝奥古斯都（Augustus）在古罗马广场（Roman Forum）树立了一块中央石碑，将其作为世界的中心，以此为起点每隔千步置一石碑，碑面刻有皇帝的大名，并标明到某地的距离。罗马的“千步”距离在拉丁语是mille passus，合写为milliarium，大约等于1.48公里。因为这些石碑代表了milliarium的距离，所以被也被称为milliarium，中文译为“里程碑”。在古罗马广场中央里的那块石碑则被称为“Milliarium Aureum”（金色里程碑），是古罗马广场的著名景点之一。
