词源词根法
来自拉丁语accensum，评估，估税，来自词根cens，评估，审查，词源同census.因词义与excise有所重合，因而拼写受excise影响俗化。ex-，向外。-cis，砍，切，词源同decide，circumcise.=作“切除”时，来源于拉丁语中由前缀ex-(出，向外)和动词caedere(砍，劈)组成的复合动词excidere的过去分词。作“税”的意义时，来源于通俗拉丁语中由前缀ad-(朝，向，趋向)和词汇census(税)组成的复合词accensum，在古法语中为acceis，经中古荷兰语excijs被英语借用。
